the polling booth / Re: Political Rallys.
« Last post by Kobuk on Today at 02:41:38 pm »
It's bad enough that people listen to politicians lies on tv, on the radio, in newspapers, etc.
Why the heck would people go to a rally and listen to more of the same thing?  >:(
How do you know a politician is lying? Their lips are moving.  :D

I remember a line in the movie "The Hunt for Red October" where a politician is talking to character Jack Ryan:

"I'm a politician. Which means I'm a liar and a cheat. And when I'm not kissing babies, I'm stealing their lollipops."

We don't really have rallies here in the Netherlands, but I wouldn't need them to decide who'll get my vote. Besides, it won't change too much anyways. The most votes will just keep going to the parties who has the men with the biggest mouths.

The Dutch village Spijkernisse now has a "Silly Walk" crossing in honour of the Monty Python's Flying Circus. It is actually not the first "Silly Walk" crossing in the world, the only other known one was located in Norway's rje.

President Trump claims he is cleaning up the swamp in Washington DC,
but he is just refilling it with crooks who misuse tax payer dollars for
their own benifit.

Trump and the GOP say they are for jobs, but they  never talk about
how good the jobs are, or how much they pay or what benefits they
may include. They even want to get rid of the minimum wage.

President Trump was making fun of a reporter who was knocked down
by a candidate he was trying to interview. Seems Trump feels it's find to
use violence to get what you want in life. This by a man who won't go
anywhere with out having bodyguards. Even before he was elected
president, where he does need them as any president does.

Trump acts tough in his rally's, but he is a first class coward who
is even afraid to personally fire anyone. Oh he did it on his tv show,
but he was acting then, playing out a fantasy.

Trump and the GOP talk about angry mobs, but when Trump speaks at
a Rally his supporters cheer when Trump talks about using violence. So
we can see who is the real angry mob, led by Trump their mob boss.

the polling booth / Political Rallys.
« Last post by Old Rabbit on Today at 09:14:23 am »
Political rally's have been a mainstay in this country for many years. Even in the 1800's
candidates traveled around the country making speeches.  In those day it was about
the only way the public could learn about the candidate. Many people didn't know how
to read so they had to  go to rally's to learn about them.

The term whistle stop was used as candidates often road trains stopping at each little
town to make a campign speech. Usally from a special car at the rear of the train.

This all changed with the advent of television and the fact most of the bublic could read
by the 1950's.

Now days rally's are more of a way to entertain and stir up political ferver. Since
most people don't normally keep up with politics.

Feel free to  post reasons why you go to rally's or not. We see them on TV, but we rarely
hear from people who go to them.

Personally I think rally's are a waste of time. I wouldn't go across the street to see
a candidate who has been on tv for months. Your not likely to  see anything new as
they will put on a show to please those who support them. and try to convince other
they are the best for the job. Yes some wait till the last minute to decide, but I usually
decide long before the election.

the polling booth / Re: Did you get a flu shot?
« Last post by Jade Sinapu on October 18, 2018, 11:39:09 am »
Yeah, supposedly, the flu shot is"dead" viruses used to teach the immune system. You get mild symptoms as your immune system reacts,  but then is gone.

Some flu shot nasal sprays are active flu virus. Some people get actual flu from that.

But,  hey,  it's optional. Many reasons to get,  many reasons not to get.

Besides the shot only helps if the strain selected is the one going around, and your immune system actually responded to the shot and got prepared.

I have skipped the shot some years,  and got it some years. So for me is spotty.

I just remember one bad year.....when we couldn't afford health care...

Only once did I get the full blown flu,  and I ran a fever of 103+ for 3 days,  all my joints were swelled,  and I was in extreme pain,  couldn't hold food or water down.  Had to use the restroom every 30 min.    Coughed a lot and sweated like crazy.  That happened when I was 13? Never been the same since.  Now I have arthritis everywhere.  Not sure if it is connected. I was out of commission for 2 weeks.

Ever since that I have tried to get the shots.  Ever since that year I have not had that happen to me again.
My 2 cents.

news forum / Re: Trump the GOP and Democrats. A new path or more of the same.

Will congress hold Saudi Arabia responsible for the death of the newsman in Turkey? Or
will they follow Trump and claim there isn't any proof to put sanctions on them? Trump
is trying to say he has a 109 billion dollare arms deal with them, but in reality it's not
even 15 billion dollars at this time. So his excuse for no sanctions is another lie.

It's under 3 weeks till the midterm election. Trump is doing rallys 4 or 5 times a week. Trump
loves to talk to his supporters. He doesn't want anyone at his rallys who don't support him. fHe
calls them private meetings. So if  someone speaks out against him he wants them thrown out.
He and many GOP congressmen and women try to avoid the voting public for fear they will
have to answer embarrassing questions.

People are already voting in states that allow early voting. Reports are early voting is heavy and
not just republicans. Democrats are out in big numbers as well. This may be a record vote for a
midterm election cycle.

I can get the flu once, or I can get the flu twice... I'll stick with once, thanks. It might be different if I lived with someone who was immuno-comprimised.

My employer had a roundup,  a bunch of cars drive through an area of the parkinglot, and they shoot you in the arm ,like cattle.
