Missing bookmarked sites?
« on: September 11, 2011, 10:28:35 pm »
I'm not sure, but I think I may be having a problem when I try to bookmark a website using Firefox.

For example: If I bookmarked a website called furrygeoworld.com several months ago, then went back to that site recently and bookmarked a particular page on that site, I sometimes then find myself trying to remember if I bookmarked the main home web addy or not. So then I'll go to the main web home addy and bookmark that again even though I may have bookmarked it already severel months ago. Sometimes when I bookmark a site a second time (Because I can't remember if I bookmarked it the first time.), I'll get a message saying that the site was already bookmarked or if I want to edit the current bookmark. But there are other times when I bookmark a site a second time that I find I don't get those messages, even though I'm pretty damn sure I bookmarked a site the first time.

Am I making sense or not? Is Firefox forgetting that I have sites bookmarked?

Are you sure you're bookmarking the exact same page? Firefox won't warn you if you're bookmarking a different page on the same site. Dynamically generated pages in particular can really mess up bookmarks.

Unless you’ve been deleting or editing .sqlite files in your Firefox profile, there’s really no reason that would cause you to lose bookmarks.

But if you are unsure,
Before you bookmark a site, check the star in the address bar, it's on the right side of the address bar,
If the site is already bookmarked, the star will be gold, if not, the star will be silver or opaque.

Also, in addition to what Foxpup said,
If the site URL is different in that, say you bookmarked www.something.com,
And later, a link or redirect takes you to www.something.com/index,
Even though it shows the same page on the same site, Firefox will treat it as a separate page.

Here's an example,
Make a bookmark of this → http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6tV11acSRk and note the star color before and after,

Then click this, it's the same video, the same page, but a different URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6tV11acSRk&#

There will be no gold star on the second link since it's a different URL, because as far as Firefox is concerned it's a different page.

 :)
