OK, apparently changing the subject when you reply does NOTHING. AT ALL.

EDIT: actually, it changes what comes up when you look at a members last posts.

Ah, i noticed that when you reply to a post, you can change the subject. Like, right now, its showing as "Re: Epic reply testage" But i can change it to something else. I was wondering if that actually had any effect on anything.

Just ask a staff member if you want to change a thread title....Unless you want to change someone elses thread title, in which case you are mean and should feel bad.

Yeah, thats cause I changed it. But you'll notice that if you go to unread topics or look at the actuall title of the thread it's not changed there.

Yeah, but thats not the point!

Thats not the point!!!

The points are:

1. This could be fun

2. I just made the biggest topic the test lab has ever seen!

3. it says "Last post in..." implying that thats the topic name, so someone really should do something about that.

It might be standard for the forum type that furtopia uses, in which case the mods and admins might not be able to do anything about it.

I think we should police ourselves in changing topic names, as in don't do it. Sure it could be used for a laugh, but it might get rather annoying and a hassle if everyone keeps changing topic names whenever they reply, and I know the staff doesn't want to listen to the complaints that are sure to come from it.

it only changes the title when you look at it from the larger forum area, like if this is the lat post in the test lab, and i chjange the title to my post, it will only be seen from the main furtopia forums, and wont actualy change the topic, just the topic on my reply.

If you interested in lucid dreaming just drop me a PM or stop by the lucid dreaming thread I'll be happy to answer any of your questions.

I know, but I sometimes use the main board to see what topics are being replied to, if I see a topic with a name I don't recognise I might click it only to find it's an old topic I've already looked at and maybe don't want to take part it. It's only a minor inconveinence but if it happens enough times to enough people it might get out of hand, see what I'm saying?

After doing some testing and discussing things with Blastdav, I have come to the following:

When a member makes a reply post in a thread and also changes the subject title in their reply post, the "true" subject title for the thread will not change. If I were to change the subject title in my reply here to "Forest property", and I then posted my reply and then scrolled back to the top of thread, I would still notice the original thread title had not changed. Other members cannot change another member's thread title. Only the original poster of the thread can change their own thread title in their very first post or they may ask a staff person to change the thread title. If a member changes their own thread title, then they must announce it in the thread.

When I'm at the bottom of the forum and I click on the following: "View the most recent posts on the forum." and I backtrack through all the past posts, I can see all the different titles that members used when they made posts.

I'm going to have to ask that members stop adding and/or changing subject titles, and/or using the subject title text box to "have discussions" when they make a reply post as that will only confuse other members as to the original topic/subject of the thread and may make them go on a "wild goose chase" so to speak looking for other threads and subjects which don't exist.

aww, not even in the word games? :D

Seriously, though, can't these be made to show the thread title in the site's code? The fact that it usually says "Last post in Re:..." is one of those things that's always made forums seem a bit shabby to me.
