IRC Difficulties

I am having difficulties connecting to IRC. I have tried all 3 servers (HydraIRC) and the browser-based java client.

I manage to connect to the server, but the client always fails to log in.

I know that certain ports are closed when I connect to the internet, but those ports are mainly concerned with download managers and programs, such as DC++ or bit-torrent applications.  I can browse the web and play games over the internet without any difficulties.

This is not unique to the Furtopia servers.  Every IRC server I attempt to connect to fails, either without connecting at all or failing at the log in screen. The only place where I have been able to contact an IRC server was Anthrochat through their browser-based client, but HydraIRC also fails to connect there.

That's all I know, and any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like your host is blocking a port needed for IRC.  Try giving this a whirl go to: http://www.furtopia.org/artwork/irc

Once there chose altirc.furtopia.org  port: 80 for your connection.

Let me know if that does not work.

The IRC isn't working for me now, is it down or something? It usually works fine but it won't connect...

Ah. Well, the furtopia.org browser did not work, but I managed to find an alternate way to connect. Thank you for the help, though.
