Depends...a lot of the time, I go without shaving for a week or two at a time. Then it starts getting a little itchy...but then again, I get itchy then anyway... :D

I'm seeing about getting one tomorrow on the way to Someone's house, all I have to do now is not talk myself out of buying it. Nervous about wearing it in public though...

Kai, definitely try it out. I felt the same way when I bought a collar. Spent the better part of an hour working up the courage to wear it out. Finally did it, and it was wonderful! I rarely take it off now, unless I'm at work.

You may get a few odd looks, and a comment or two, but it's very much worth it. <3 You can do it!  :)

It's around 3am here in Perth... There arn't many accounts for wearing them in Australia, thats mainly why I have doubts 'bout wearing them in public. Heck, I may be the first fur living in this suburb.

*Edit: Why didn't I think of searching Perth in Wikifur before?  :P

It would seem that you aren't quite alone out there.  ;)

As far as your concerns about being out in public, I can't give you much advice; I don't know much about your community. However, it can't hurt to be prepared for at least a little curiosity out of the general public. Negative comments are thankfully rare, and almost never to the point that they can't be ignored, while anything else gives you an opportunity to find potential furrends.  :D

Fun example: I went to an office supply store yesterday for printer ink, and of course wore my collar. The girl at register was about my age and quite outspoken.

"Is that a dog collar?"
     "Well, yes. Yes, it is."
"Why would you WEAR a dog collar?"
     "Because the cat collar wouldn't fit."

While true (I have a ~16" neck, too big for your average cat), the answer was humorous enough to get the girl laughing. Potential embarrassment avoided, and I got my ink.

Agreed. When I first got my collar it bothered me for a bit, but after about 3 days you just forget your wearing it. Then people start giving you funny looks when you have no idea why.  :D

Esau sold me his CollarFactory one that ended up being too big for him... so I suppose that means i'll be wearing it, lol.

Wore it under a turtle neck today while I was out and about... didn't think about getting a haircut... first thing the hairdresser does is turn down the turtle neck, and the comments start haha. It was pretty funny though.

hmm i never thought of wearing it in the shower to soften it up, thats a good idea. i'v been wearing mine for a few days now so it's softened up a bit, i never thought i'd buy a collar but when i did i did'nt want to take it off!

Yah, I've developed a bit of a collar security complex. I the only time I take it off is when I'm in the shower. When we put on a play for drama this Thursday (I got around 5 complements the next day from random people, so whooho, me!) , I had to take it off, I  kind of freaked out about it.  :D

more resently it's probably one of the first things i put on in the morning and one of the last things i take off at night. Weekends only sadly, my school has a strict uniform policy

Same for me, especially since I got my new one.  It fits so well I hardly notice it when I am wearing it, but when I take it off, I notice its absence.

I guess it's like wearing a watch, you do it so much that you no longer recognize it's presence, but do see it's absence.

I do the same thing. I don't think about the fact that I am wearing it, but when it is off...I notice it.

I haven't worn it all weekend, but I keep reaching up to my neck to straighten it out, then realize it isn't there... :(

I got my collar today! Its pure black with thin blue stripes going horizontally across. It came with two metal hoops to connect it to a chain (I didn't buy it, it was 16.000 pesos (around $6.5 U.S. and I thought it would be weird) So, I'm gonna use it in school on Mon. but I can't let my family see it Sad I know, my mother and bro understands the furry thing, but my mom does not know about the "lifestylers" and my bro would just think its weird, and tell me mom.

Oh well! Its happy!

I used to wear mine at night, but discovered I just don't sleep well enough when I do.  I don't like having anything on my upper body when I sleep.

I actually slept with mine on while over at a friends house, when i woke up i was like "crud, I probably hive this big red mark on my neck"

but I didn't which was nice.

I probably won't sleep with it on very often since I'm used to taking off necklaces and such before I go to sleep.

It all depends on your style. I wear a lot of accessories on me all the time so I wouldn't feel out of character with one on.
