animal instincts
« on: May 30, 2010, 08:02:00 pm »
Have you ever felt that when you're happy, your tailbone feels odd, like you are instinctively trying to wag your nonexistent tail? I think we all still have our basic animal roots, no matter how deep or shallow they are.

I do not identify with being feline or canid at all, so can't say the tailbone thing has ever happened to me. But, I have mentioned in here, once or twice, that I process the fight or flight mechanism quite often. Or, when i feel I'm in a dangerous situation and flight is not an option, I do know instinctively how to hide myself very well. When I chose my animal fursona, I didn't just start to have these instincts either. These came with years of training and practical use from being a Recon Scout in the army for 11 years. It wasn't until about 8 years out of the service did i realize just how similar I was to a certain species that became my fursona.

Hahah, I suppose I have phantom ears.
When I'm listening to something, I feel like I have imaginary animal ears that perk up on the top of my head.
Or when I'm angry I feel like they pull back.
x_x
I've been feeling that before I even found my fursona.
So they're hyena ears now
:)

I have a phantom tail I guess. Sometimes when I'm really happy I actually feel like I have to move so my "tail" doesn't bump into anything, even though it doesn't exist to anyone but me.  :-[

No tail here. I'm human :)  I've got some quirks that might resemble some things that animals do, but its not because I'm furry.

I've come close to hissing at things when frightened.  :o

The funny thing is, it's never a conscious action...sometimes I get scared by something, and just...hiss.  :D

I can move a bit my ears at will, but when Im calm and an incoming noise comes, they move almost instantly, haha. Its like if they were ready to catch every little sound that is near  :)

I must say that some things I do I can relate to animal instinct, lol like (ironically) yesterday I was coming from a swim team practice and this husky ran by me. All of a sudden I had the sudden erge to chase after him. It gave me this brief need to run and feel free for the moment. lol what can you do sometimes?

I'm guilty of attempting to wag my non-existent tail ^_^
As well,  have a habit of twitching my non-existent canine ears when I'm bothered.

same here, cept i flatten my ears when im peeved. or perk up me ears when i see something. & twitch my tail when im annoyed. :B

& my other animal instinct (i think) is whenever i see flashing lights not being controlled by somebody (like lightning), i hide. i cant stand lightning. DX

I wouldn't say 'phantom tail' as such but I sometimes imagine what my fursona would be doing in a situation I am in, which sometimes ends up in imagining tail flicks etc.

For some reason, being up high really calms me down and makes feel really amazing. Sometimes I'll sit on my roof and just look at the clouds and the skyline and I'll get really happy. No tail to wag here though.

I can't move my ears consciously but they move tward sounds and I don't look or turn my head if I can immediately identify what it is. If I see or hear someone and I have not been seen, I stop and sometimes move to avoid being seen, especially at nite. I always try and be where I can see everything. It is rare that someone can sneak up on or surprise me but when it happens I snap tward them (just my head unless I am really caught off guard) without a sound. Several times I have been a split second from attacking friends instead of just snapping my head in their direction. They thought it was funny and that it is just a flinch. I only moved to attack once when I was deep in thought and a friend touched my shoulder from behind but I stopped myself the second I saw his face. I almost got in a fight with a friend that day because of the "don't touch me" rule. Nobody tried to surprise me after that. Some friends I had huh? I also growl when I am really angry.

I growl a lot when I'm annoyed around friends.   8)
I also bite people, if they grab me oddly or are restraining my mouth.
The pic is NOT mine. Sorry, but I'm not THAT good.
Oh, and did you know that the word "Gullible" is written on your back. Yeah, it's also not in the dictionary. (hides grin)

I don't know if this counts as an animal instinct or not, but I smell my food before I eat it. I don't think I have a heightened sense of smell or anything like that, I just like to smell what I am about to eat. Smell plays a factor in taste so I think smelling my food before I eat it enhances the flavor.
I also like to smell other random objects just to see what they smell like. Maybe a mix between curiosity and instinct.

You know that thing cats do when bathing and grooming? The paw lick, fur rubbing, smelling of paws and the such?
Yeah, I do that.
